Pavers and our community- Helping is the Natural Step!

Here at Pavers as an independent family run company we understand the value of good relationships within our team, with our suppliers and partners and most importantly with our customers.

It is this focus on friendship, honesty and integrity that drives Pavers’ involvement and support of charities and people in all walks of life in our local communities. We also value a strong sense of global responsibility and support many ventures in countries we source from. Here are just some of the many fabulous charities we have supported over the years and are proud to be associated with;

We have also supported Macmillan Cancer support, completed the Peru Hiking Challenge raising £10,000 and Marie Curie Cancer Care- The Daffodil Appeal in the past few years.

Carrier Bag Charges

At the beginning of October ‘15, as per government regulations we started charging 5p for the use of our carrier bags. Although not duty bound, we decided to give all funds raised to charity and have selected a different charity for each quarter. For the first quarter (October – December) we have been donating all funds to Cancer Research UK. And as of January 2016 we have been donating to the NSPCC. Watch this space to find out who we are donating to next quarter.

Cancer Research UK

In 2014/2015 we chose Cancer Research UK as our charity of the year. Our MD Stuart set us all a challenge to raise £50,000!

We made huge leaps and bounds on the way towards meeting our Cancer Research UK Fundraising objective. And we did it! We’re delighted to announce that we smashed our fundraising target for CRUK! Raising over a whopping £110,000!

This amazing figure was achieved through sheer grit and determination from the Paver's team. Fundraising events such as, bike rides, walks, assault courses and sponsored fancy dress were just a few of the wonderful events our stores and Head office participated in

Here are just a few of our fundraising tales over the year!

Colne tells Cancer to take a hike!!

Our fabulous team at Colne have told Cancer to take a hike and put their best feet forward in the aid of our official Charity Cancer Research UK. A great, big round of applause for the girls, who completed a sponsored walk, along what sounds like an amazing dramatic route, traversing 11 miles, from Worsthorne in Burnley over Gorple Moor, through Hardcastle Craggs to Hebden Bridge, phew! I’m feeling exhausted just thinking about it! The ladies raised a humongous £800 and we think have earned a well -deserved feet up!

South Dress up day!

Who says work wear can’t be glam! Our stores in the South made the daily grind a little more sophisticated! Never mind dressing down for charity, we don’t do things by half as our gorgeous girls and boys dressed up!! The following stores got their glad rags on, modelled in their finery, served in their best threads, merchandised in their best frocks, and raised a show stopping £812.55 for Cancer Research UK. What a great result and well done to all those who team members who participated!

Chippenham, Ebbw Vale, Gloucester, Plymouth, Poole, Shepton Mallet, Swindon, Cornwall, Whitminster and Wilton

Mansfield step on those “Blue Suede Shoes” for charity Our fabulous team at Mansfield certainly have some “sole”! As beating cancer is certainly “no sweat” for our cool gang of Pink ladies and T-birds, who wearing 50’s threads had a blast dressing up for the day to raise money for CRUK. They raised a rock and rolling £185.00, so it’s “laters” to cancer and “give me five” to the dolls at Mansfield - What a fun and fab way to raise money Cancer Research UK!

Glasgow- Cancer’s for the High Jump!

To coincide with the Commonwealth games visiting their fine city, Glasgow had a “Sportswear” day for Cancer Research! Wearing their CRUK t-shirts the team made the distance, crossing the finishing line and topping the podium with a gold medal winning performance of £250! Champion work!

Our Charity Champions

In March 2015, a great day was had by our Charity Champions; these lovely people helped to co-ordinate our CRUK fundraising efforts across our stores! From left to right we have Sharon (Spalding) Louise (Evesham), Lindsey, (Loch Lomond) Sue (Fleetwood) and Chloe our fab CRUK representative. The Ladies all visited the Cancer Research UK labs in Manchester to meet World Class scientists and discover just what amazing advances are being made in the fight against this terrible disease. They also got the opportunity to see the fabulous ways in which our fundraising money is being spent! Inspirational! Thanks Cancer Research UK!

Following on from our year of fundraising alongside Cancer Research UK, the charity announced that we had been chosen to receive a fabulous “Flame of Hope” award in recognition of our outstanding fundraising achievements! CRUK wanted to acknowledge the huge amount of time and energy given to their fabulous cause.

Our wonderful team of Pavers Charity Champions have been awarded a Special Commendation for the award category: Corporate Charity Champion of the Year.

Congratulations to all our charity champions, who have been truly amazing over the last 12 months! They’ve been key in fulfilling our fundraising dreams for CRUK. They have gone that extra mile, spending their own time and going above and beyond the call of duty to fundraise for such a wonderful cause. Bringing the team’s together across the areas and the go too people when advice was needed!

Last year was a sensational success and our fantastic relationship with Cancer Research UK was all down to our Charity Champions and also to you! Well done everyone!

Tough Mudder Challenge

Be afraid, be very afraid! This charity fundraiser is certainly not for wimps!

Tough Mudder is a half- marathon, hard core, military style obstacle course/ mud challenge designed and run by the British Special Forces to test all round strength, stamina, teamwork and mental grit. Crickey!

Mudder events are run and renowned throughout the world, and we’re amazed to report that two teams from across our stores competed in this wonderful event: Team Pavers East and Team Pavers Midlands were crazy and brave enough to represent Pavers by stepping up to the challenge. Putting themselves through what looks like hell, all in aid of raising money for our Charity, Cancer Research UK.

Muddy Amazing guys all of you, well done true grit and amazing team work for a such a wonderful cause!

Tour De Pavers- Oct 2014

So as part of the next cycle of fundraising at Head Office, the brain child of Stuart and in respect to the CRUK’s focus on health, we decided to complete a fitness focussed bike challenge for our chosen charity! Cancer Research UK!

Now here in York that summer we were no strangers to the odd bike race, (think we had a little one pass through in July? Mm something to do with France?! Not sure if you heard about it!) So bring it on, us Yorkies, well we know our “Peloton” from our “Hors Categorie”! Hmm!

Therefore on Saturday 4th October, Tour de Pavers Grand Depart… departed, from York racecourse, comprising of our wonderful band of brothers, 11 Head Office Cyclists, 2 runners and an array of support vehicles all from a wide spectrum of departments. The 50 mile adrenalin packed course headed out into the lovely Yorkshire countryside, I would say stunning but the October weather was a little how can we say it, drizzly/chucking it down!!? However that did not dampen our spirits and the team rolled out into the damp weekend weather with gusto!

Well what can I say... think blood, sweat and tears, think, helmets, lycra, and saddle sore oh missus !! It was an exciting and challenging day and we certainly burned some rubber, put our foot to the metal and showed true pedal power in the fight against Cancer!

In true Pavers’ style we did “Stand up to Cancer” in fact some of those with particularly sore behinds after the cycling on Sunday were also standing up for the remainder of the weekend!! Our fabulous team raised a “wheely” amazing £7,500 for CRUK and to top it off, Stuart has kindly agreed to match every penny, so the rolling total so far is an outstanding £15,000!

The yellow jersey goes to Cancer Research UK, the true winner of the day, but a huge thank you to all who participated, cycling, running (a 10 mile course) and driving support vehicles.

Here’s a good yarn for you….Head Office went woolly fantastic!

Our Head Office team, did their bit in a Xmas knit, they well and truly got into the festive spirit and went woolly fantastic to celebrate National Xmas Jumper day on December 18th!! Yes the louder, the brighter the better! Spot your favourite? Everyone who donned a dodgy/delightful knit donated to the wonderful charity, The Salvation Army.

Stores

Many of our stores participated this year in National Jumper week, they got truly into the festive spirit and the team in our Grantham store celebrated Christmas Jumper day as well, we think they look fab!

Samartian’s Purse - The pressie project- that’s a wrap! The World’s largest Children’s Christmas Project 2015

Each year Paver’s works with the Samaritans Purse on put the world’s largest Children’s Christmas project. They request a shoe box to be filled with gifts for disadvantaged children around the world between the ages of 2 – 14. Last year over 1.2 million shoeboxes were packed and sent to the children from the UK alone. The Samaritans Purse project brings hope, a smile and some fun to some of the world’s poorest children by a simple act of generosity in the giving of a Christmas gifts in a shoe box!

Here at Pavers it’s just the perfect charity partnership, we have plenty of shoes and therefore plenty of shoeboxes, so for the past few years we have participated in this wonderful cause. In the winter of 2015 in our stores and at our head office we sent out shoe boxes packed full of gifts for boys and girls across the world.

So many of our teams pulled out all the stops and joined in, and they really did blow our socks off this year! Particularly as we know that so many participate in other charity events during the lead up to the festive period, so everyone’s involvement is epic! We had a grand total of 84 festively wrapped shoeboxes, packed full of gifts for children across the world. Amazing!

Thank you to all those who have shown yet again some seriously, fantastic generosity! Also thanks must go to our Senior Management team who kindly agreed to pay the donation of £3.00 per shoebox to cover all our distribution costs, all in all which totted up to a superb £252!

We’re sure those xmas pressies, packed full of goodies will bring a smile and some fun to some of the world’s poorest children by the simple act of the giving of a gift. It’s such a lovely, worthwhile campaign to be involved in, at what is often such an emotional and in many cases difficult time of year, so thank you again for all those who participated!

Women’s Institute

We ended 2015 by welcoming some very special after hour’s visitors to our TV Studio ….. York’s WI! A fun evening was had by all, involving the chance to go behind the scenes on set, the opportunity to film some pieces to camera and plenty of cheese and prosecco! As you can imagine the ladies had a very “entertaining” evening!

And as a special thankyou they created this gorgeous “Shoetastic” paper craft display! Thanks Ladies for a fab evening!

Uganda

A regular customer at our Banbridge store asked for our help in providing footwear for 33 children in Uganda who have undergone difficult circumstances. Stuart our MD, who is always willing to offer his support for worthy causes, stepped up and funded this request and here are some lovely pictures of some lovely pictures of the delightful children trying on their new shoes!

100 reasons to celebrate! Paver’s heralded the opening of their 100th store by pledging support and money to local charities!

During the winter of 2013 Pavers Shoes were proud to herald the opening of their 100th Store and to celebrate this fantastic achievement pledged donations to 100 local charities across the UK. Paver’s landmark 100th store opened on the 1st November 2013 within the newly constructed London Designer Outlet.

To show appreciation to its loyal customer base, and to give back to their local community, all Pavers stores, from northern Scotland down to the south coast of England, were asked to nominate a charity of their personal choice, in their operational area be it large or small, who they feel would benefit from receiving a monetary contribution totalling £100 towards their worthy cause.

Overall Pavers donated a grand total of £10,000 to 100 charities in recognition of this.
